Reel Talk is designed to be user-friendly, but like any specialized tool, it comes with its own set of user interface elements. To help you navigate the app with ease, I've compiled a comprehensive glossary of buttons, terms and definitions you might encounter while using Reel Talk.

Navigation:

  • Spots Tab - Spots: View the Angler Map and All Spots Ranked table.
  • Brag Board Tab - Brag Board: Snap a photo of your catch and share it.
  • Blog Tab - Blog: Fishing tips, app guides, and seasonal reports.
  • Map Controls:

  • Location Filter - Location Filter: Select your area, state, and how many spots to show. This is the most important button in the app.
  • Layer Toggle - Layer Toggle: Switch between street view and satellite view.
  • Zoom Out Reset - Zoom Out: Reset the map back to default view when zoomed in.
  • Zoom In Reset - Zoom In: Reset the map back to default view when zoomed out.
  • Locate Me - Locate Me: Find your current GPS location on the map.
  • Close - Close: Close the location detail panel.
  • List View - List View: Switch to the ranked table view.
  • Map View - Map View: Switch back to the interactive map.
  • Refresh - Refresh: Fetch the latest conditions data.
  • Map Pins:

  • Top Pin - Top Spot Pin: The top 3 ranked fishing spots right now.
  • Normal Pin - Fishing Spot Pin: A regular fishing spot. Tap to view details.
  • Bait Shop Pin - Bait Shop Pin: Nearby bait shops. Tap for info and directions.
  • Google Navigate - Google Navigate: Get directions via Google Maps.
  • Map Overlays:

  • Contour - Contour: Show water depth contours and channel markers.
  • Rain Radar - Rain Radar: Live rain radar overlay.
  • Water Temp - Water Temp: Sea surface temperature overlay.
  • Forecast Icons:

  • Sunrise - Sunrise

  • Wind N - N (North)

  • Terms and Definitions:

  • FBI - Fish Bite Index: A score (0-100%) indicating how likely fish are to bite based on weather, tides, water temp, moon phase, and pressure.
  • BP - Barometric Pressure: Atmospheric pressure that influences fish behavior. Falling pressure often triggers feeding.
  • Species Bite Likelihood - Bite Ratings: Per-species ratings (High, Moderate, Low, or Closed) for common inshore species at each location.
